Barbara Bernadine Pierce Burkhart, 85, of Sheldon, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara was born on January 21, 1940 to Hugh and Mary Pierce at Bell Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
In 1958, she graduated from Westport High School. Barbara was blessed with several lifelong friends she made in high school. After graduation, she began a career in the banking and loan industry.
On October 5, 1958, she married James M Eden, they had 2 children, Carrie and Jim.
Barbara married Donald Burkhart on August 31, 1978. Their nearly 47 years of marriage took them on an “adventure” to Washington state in 1981, where they lived for nearly 2 decades. After retiring from the shipyard in Bremerton, their family was happy to have them back home in Missouri to make memories on Stockton Lake.
Barbara loved cats and was owned by many in her lifetime. She loved a good romance novel, to sew and quilt, and cook for her family. Of all her activities, decorating for Christmas was her favorite and acquiring new decorations was a year-round quest. A hug from her was curative for whatever ailed you. We will miss her sense of humor and quick wit.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Mary Pierce. She is survived by her husband, Donald Burkhart; her children Carrie (Barry) Burlingame and James (Linda) Eden Jr.; 5 grandsons, Matt, Greg, Ian, Alex, and Austin; and her 8 great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Tucker, Layla, EJ, Millie, Lincoln, Josephine and Koda.
Graveside services will be held at the Urich Cemetery, NW 1271 Rd Urich, Missouri 64788 on June 21, 2025 at12:00pm. By Barbara’s request, the service will be followed by a picnic at the Urich City Park. Please dress for the weather and a picnic.
