Clarice Jean Burrow was born on November 2, 1948, in Chalk Level, Missouri, to Walter Wood and Martha Bird Wood. From the very beginning, she was surrounded by the love of her family, and throughout her life, she extended that love to all who knew her. At an early age, Clarice was saved and accepted the Lord as her savior.
On April 20, 1968, Clarice married her high school sweetheart, James Burrow, in Osceola, Missouri. Together, they shared 56 loving years of marriage, building a life full of joy, dedication, and devotion to each other. Their love was the foundation of the family they raised together.
Clarice was the proud mother of Laurinda Leann and James Anthony. She poured all her love into her children, ensuring they felt supported, cherished, and always knew that family was the greatest gift of all. Later in life, she was blessed to become “Nana”. Her home was always a safe place of warmth, laughter, and love, where family would gather, especially during the holidays, which she loved to host.
Clarice was a dedicated hairdresser for 50 years. Her work was more than just a job, it was a passion. She made people feel good about themselves, whether she was trimming hair, offering a listening ear, or sharing a laugh with her clients, she did it with joy.
When Clarice wasn’t working or spending time with her family, she helped others. She spent her free time cleaning homes, clinics, and churches, always finding ways to give back to those in need. Whether it was a small gesture or a bigger act of service, Clarice’s heart was always open to others.
Those of us who were lucky enough to know Clarice will remember her for her kind, selfless spirit and her faith in the Lord. She lived her life in a way that made everyone feel welcome, appreciated, and loved.
Clarice passed away peacefully in her home on January 1, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. While we mourn the loss of such an incredible woman, we take comfort in knowing that her love and her memory will live on in all of us.
Clarice is survived by her husband, James Burrow, her daughter Laurinda Gipson, her son James Burrow and wife Candice, her ten grandchildren, and her sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister in law Carol, and husband Bruce, her brother in law Mike and wife Dorothy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and her lifelong friend Gladys Smith.
Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Martha Wood, as well as her four brothers, five sisters, her father-in-law Lawrence, mother-in-law Wanda, and many other loved ones. She is now reunited with them, and we know that she is at peace.
