Richard Manuel Cauthon age 91 born May 14, 1930, in Saint Clair County Gerster, MO to Fred and Lula (Baumgarden) Cauthon. He passed away March 8, 2022, in the VA hospital of Kansas City MO.

 

He grew up on the family farm where he was born, and helped where needed. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1950. He enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1951.  He served a two year term before serving in the reserves until 1959. He served in the Korean Conflict and was sent home with 3 medals, nation defense service medal, Korean service medal with two stars and the United Nations service medal.

 

Returning home he met Helen (Anderson) and they were united in marriage in 1954. To this union five children were born. Paul, Nancy, Janet, Diane & Stephen. Richard worked in the Kansas City and Clinton, MO areas. In 1975, Richard moved to Weaubleau where he loved sitting on the porch, dancing, taking evening walks and raising his rabbits. In September 1986 Richard meet Phyllis Harris. In 1990 he moved to Kansas City to be with Phyllis full time. She was his soul mate and life- long companion. They loved going to family reunions and dancing. They traveled to many states and went on 3 cruises. Costa Rica was his favorite. In the brightness of his days to the darkness of his nights Phyllis was there to always hold his hand. Richard and Phyllis adopted a little dog named Ronnie. They had him for 17 years. He was Richard’s little sidekick. Richard donated to Wayside Waifs in Kansas City. Richard lived a long and happy life with many family & friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Lula, son Paul, brothers Orval, Ervin, and George, sisters Veda, Sara Ann and Vera two grandsons Tony Amanual Rife and Luis Cook, two great grandsons Chase and Glen Rife.

 

He is survived by Phyllis Harris of the home, children Nancy (Alvin) Lowe, Pittsburg, KS, Janet (Jim) Arnold Nixa, MO, Diane Cauthon Lowry City, MO, Stephen (Faye) Cauthon Camdenton, MO, Alene Harris of Lincoln, NE, sisters Juanita of Kansas City, MO, Grace of FL, 12 grandchildren Matthew, Holly, Casey, Nathan, Zachary, Stephanie, Richard, Roy (Bub), Clay, Sara, Linda & Rowan Long. 34 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren & many nieces and nephews.
