Cole, L. Jane

Lula Jane Cole was born July 9, 1935, near Osceola, Missouri and departed this life on October 3, 2022.

Jane grew up in a loving Christian home with her mother and grandmother, Katheryn and Dollie Hoover. They worshiped at Cook’s Chapel Church. As a teenager, Jane dedicated her life to the Lord and endeavored to be a consistent Christian the rest of her life.

Jane attended Lewis Grade School and Osceola High School where she graduated in 1952. In 1954, she moved to Kansas City and was employed by CIT Financial Services until her retirement in 1990. During

those years in Kansas City, she attended Nall Avenue Church of the Nazarene where she was active in the Fellowship of Christian Singles, Nazarene World Missionary Society, and other church related

ministries. She spent many hours ministering through music and exhortation to the homeless at the Kansas City Rescue Mission. She was a genuine friend to the homeless and was appreciated and loved.

In 2000, Katheryn and Jane returned to the farm west of Osceola. In the years following, she made many new friends as well as renewed acquaintances with some longtime friends and relatives. After Cook’s Chapel Church closed, she attended the Church of God (Holiness) in Lowry City, which was a source of much encouragement and Christian fellowship. She was especially close to cousins, Naomi and Esther Collins, who often said they considered Jane a part of their family. They have all now gone to Heaven.

In her senior years, Jane enjoyed being a Food Banc Volunteer, doing some secretarial work for the Yeater Cemetery, writing her memoirs, researching her roots, and visiting friends and relatives. She was

a wellspring of information regarding this area. Jane had a unique sense of humor. She made others chuckle with her homespun, matter of fact, down to earth way of expressing herself. Her eyes would light up and twinkle when she was teased or teasing. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
