George Willard “Corky” Burns 81, Humansville, Missouri, passed away peacefully, on April 9, 2026, at CMH in Bolivar Missouri

Corky was born in Kansas City, Missouri ,on November 12, 1944 to James C. and Georgia M. (Richards) Burns.

His early years were spent in Kansas City, where he cultivated a love for life and learning, graduating from Central High School.  He spent a decade in Weaubleau, Missouri, and four decades in Collins, Missouri, where he formed deep connections and lasting friendships, before spending the last four months of his life at Northwood Hills in Humansvillle, Missouri.

From a young age, Corky’s vivacious spirit was evident, as he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and contentment throughout his years.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Corky began his career carrying golf bags, a testament to his humble beginnings and strong work ethic. He later found camaraderie and purpose working at Hardee’s, where his friendly demeanor earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues and customers alike.

Corky’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith and love for music and sports. A devout follower of his church, he found solace and joy in the harmonious sounds of bluegrass and gospel music jams.

His passion for sports was evident in his loyal support of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, Missouri (Mizzou) tigers, and Kansas Jayhawks. He was also an enthusiastic wrestling fan, rarely missing a match.

Corky had some interesting facts about him. His favorite color was green. He loved ice cream, popcorn, and hot chocolate. His favorite music artists were Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, and his favorite movies were John Wayne westerns. He loved going and getting a soda pop in the mornings, and taking afternoon rides.

He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. His vibrant spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many.

Corky was preceded in death by his parents, James and Georgia Burns; brother, Mike (James Michael) Burns; sister, Linda Kay Couch.

He is survived by his loving sister, Carol J. Burns; brother, Jerry  L. Burns; sisters-in-law, Kim Burns and Micky Burns; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; countless friends who became family over the years.

Corky was a beacon of joy and laughter to all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

His journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

As we say goodbye, we find solace in knowing that he is now fishing peacefully in Heavenly waters, his spirit free and his heart full.
