Carol Marie Goans was born May 17, 1951 to Wanda (Greenwell) and Warren H. “Jack” Goans. Carol passed into the arms of Jesus on November 2, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
When Carol’s step-father, Jason Goans passed away in November of 1961 she took on the responsibility of helping her mother with her six younger siblings, a job that she did not take lightly. Carol attended Lowry City C-4 Elementary and High School. She enjoyed singing in the school chorus and playing softball. She worked through OEO as a custodian helper while still in high school. Carol graduated from Lowry City C-4 High School in May of 1969. In February of 1970 she married Gale Kalberloh. This union blessed her with two beautiful children, Shawna Marie and Dustin Eugene. Carol worked at the Morton-VanZanten Clinic and Sac-Osage Hospital for several years. While raising her family she enjoyed bowling, softball, crocheting and dancing.
Carol came to know Jesus and was baptized at the Lowry City First Baptist Church and later rededicated her life to Christ at the Church of God Holiness in Lowry City in December of 2011. When CB’s were popular she was known as “Foxy Lady”, a name that suited her well. Carol worked as a waitress, truck driver, sold tires for Goodyear (won a corvette for qualifying with the most sales) and worked at Truman Lake Manor as a secretary for several years. It was here that she was reunited with an old high school flame, Richard Powell. Richard became her soul mate and companion. They became a blended family with Richard’s children, Chris, Teresa, Jeannie, and Richie, as well as his grandchildren.
When Carol retired she enjoyed working in her flower beds, gardening, fishing with Richard, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. As the grandchildren grew up, Carol adopted a new family, her beloved dogs, George, Abby and Sander. While Richard was on the road the dogs were a lot of company and she spent many an hour pampering them.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Jason Goans, Jack Goans, Wanda Goans; 1 brother, Jackie Goans and a sister who died in infancy, Anita Lou and 1 grandson, Leif Eric Vaughn.
She is survived by the love of her life, Richard Powell; her children Shawna Kalberloh and Dustin (Julie) Kalberloh of Lowry City; 7 grandchildren, Morgan Vaughn, Tallon Vaughn, Kyten Robinson, Autumn Wilcox and Kyndall, Dakota and Rafe Kalberloh; 2 great-grandchildren, Cail Gardner and Rylie Vaughn; brothers and sister, Stanley (Nina) Goans, David (Sandy) Goans, Marcia (Edward) Hiser, Linda (Randy) Newell and Gloria (Ron) Crowder along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
