Matthew Ryan Goehrig (29) of Branson, Missouri, was born on June 30, 1996, at Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola, Missouri to Kimberly (Newton) Aldridge and Michael Goehrig.

He attended Weaubleau schools, where his real passion lay on the baseball field. Many will remember his strong left-handed pitch – or the frequent reminder to “unhitch the plow!”

He went on to complete the Master Pipe Welding and Fitting course at the Missouri Welding Institute in Nevada. A notoriously hard worker, Matthew possessed a wide range of skills and worked in the construction, electrical, and plumbing industries.

In 2017, while struggling with substance abuse disorder and homelessness, Matthew turned to Communities of Recovery Experience (CORE) in Branson. There, he found a sense of community and the unwavering support he needed at one of the most difficult points in his life.

During his recovery, he discovered his calling to serve others who were struggling with addiction and mental health issues, eventually joining the CORE Operations Department as an operations specialist and managing one of the men’s intake houses.

Matthew was a natural counselor and never shied away from a challenge. He often remarked that he preferred working at the intake house because it gave him the opportunity to support people in their lowest moments. He had a gift for meeting others
exactly where they were in their recovery, offering compassion and understanding without judgment.

Matthew’s faith was the guiding force in his life. He had a special way with children and deeply loved his family.

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth W. Newton, Jr. and Carole Ann Newton. He leaves his wife, Shelby Evans Goehrig of Branson, MO; step-children, Braelynn and Lane; his mother, Kimberly Newton Aldridge of Collins, MO; brother, Evan Coyne of Florence, MA; sister, Chelsey Coyne of Springfield, MO; aunt, Kaylene Newton of Osceola, MO; cousins, Benjamin Tennyson and wife, Terryn (Primo) Tennyson, of Hill AFB, UT; McKennzee Newton of Springfield, MO; Beau Hoeme of Osceola, MO; and his loving extended family in western Massachusetts.
