Iola Gwinn entered her heavenly home on September 18, 2025 at her home near Iconium surrounded by her family. She was born July 29, 1932 in Paola, Kansas, to Cecil Edward and Thelma Ione Chipley Dyke.
In 1935 the family moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Thelma died April 2, 1937, leaving Cecil to care for two little girls. He did have the help of his parents who lived in the home, plus Thelma’s four sisters and a brother. In 1938 the family moved to Harrisonville, Missouri. That was home to Iola until 1989 when she and Robert moved to the Iconium, Missouri area. There she lived until her death.
Iola and Robert Herschel Gwinn were married on April 9, 1949. Three daughters were born to them, Barbara Marie, Beverly Lee, and Brenda Carel. Bob passed away at the home near Iconium February 13, 2002.
When Iola was 12 years old, she asked Jesus into her heart, was baptized, and joined First Baptist Church of Harrisonville, Missouri, where she was a member for 58 years. In 2002 she joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Quincy, Missouri.
Iola was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Leah Dyke; a sister, Naomi Nevius, and three brothers; Charles, Franklin (Tom), and Samuel Dyke; brother-in-law, Paul Crawford, and sister-in-law, Sandra Dyke.
Survivors are: daughters, Barbara Battle of the home, Beverly Hembree, Overland Park, Kansas, Brenda Carroll (Gary) Archie, Missouri; sister, Arlene Crawford, Urich, Missouri; brother Eugene Dyke (Shanda) Garden City, Missouri; sister-in-law Laddie Dyke, Iconium, Missouri. Six grandchildren, Anissa Atkinson (Kendall), Archie, Missouri, Angela Huser (Jamey), Jacksonville, Florida, Scott Hembree, Belton, Missouri, Michael Surber (Kasey), Peculiar, Missouri Chad Hembree, Garden City, Missouri, and Kimberly (Dustin) Biddle, Wesley Chapel, Florida. Six great-granddaughters, Jessica, Alexandra, Taylor, Makena, Jordan, and Dyllan; two great-grandsons; Karson and Mason; two great-great grandsons, T.J. and Catrell, one great-great granddaughter, Marlayshia. Many brothers and sisters in Christ, members of Hopewell Baptist Church and many friends in the Iconium community.
In lieu of flowers, any who wish to, may contribute to The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, St. Croix Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Wounded Warriors, in care of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, Missouri.
