Thelma Lee Hays passed away October 3, 2024, in Bolivar, Missouri. She was born February 6,
1931, to Mrytle Wingfield Hughes and Merle Hughes on a farm near Collins, MO. She attended
one room schoolhouses in her early childhood and graduated from Collins High School in 1950.
On March 16, 1953, she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Hays. To this union 2 sons were
born. Randall in 1958, and Curtis in 1962. Kenneth and Thelma were married 64 years before his
passing in 2017.
Thelma was saved September 27, 1961, and baptized October 15, 1961. She faithfully attended
Collins Christian Church as long as her health permitted and loved her church family. Thelma
had several jobs in her lifetime, but the one she enjoyed the most was a clerk at Buzz and
Beverly Marquis grocery store in Collins. Thelma loved being a mom, meme, and granny to her
family. Her hobbies were gardening and sewing, especially making quilts and baby quilts to give
away.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers.
Thelma is survived by sons Randall (Lydia), Curtis (Lori), grandsons: Andrew, Adam (Leslie),
Kyle (Katlyn), 5 great-grandchildren: Leroy, Parker, Rylee, Zoe, and Dakota, as well as many
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
