Jackson Jr., Jerald “Jerry”

Jerald (Jerry) Letcher Jackson, Jr., 78 of Osceola, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Community Springs Nursing Home in El Dorado Springs, Missouri following a stroke on May 31, 2020.  He was born to Jerald Letcher Jackson, Sr. and Eva Marie (Fite) Jackson on February 25, 1942 in South Fulton, Kentucky.

 

He attended elementary school in Clinton, Kentucky and junior high through the 10th grade in Colorado Springs, Colorado,  He quit school and joined the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served until 1964.  While serving active duty he became an E3 Boasomate Petty Officer 3rd Class serving on the USS Apache in the Philippines.  While he was in the Navy he received his GED.

 

After his discharge from the Navy, Jerry worked in various service stations and convenience stores.  Jerry and his family moved to a farm in Cedar County, Missouri in 1969.  He worked for Dewayne Steward in Montevallo.  During the fall and winter, he delivered propane and did service work.  The other months he farmed for Dewayne.  During this time, he met Linda and her daughter Nicole.  They were married on September 21, 1973 in Miami, Oklahoma and moved to Mayfield, Kentucky where they owned and operated a 24 hour truck stop and had a U-Haul franchise.  After three years they moved to the Roscoe area.

 

Jerry did some wood refinishing and restoration, worked at Green Oil Company in El Dorado Springs, Empire Gas Company of Osceola and Getty Oil Company in Collins.  Later he worked maintenance and drove a bus for El Dorado Springs R-2 and later for Roscoe C-1 School for several years.  After turning 70 he moved on to fishing, going to yard sales, wheeling and dealing and visiting with anyone he would meet.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerald and Marie Jackson; brother, Ronnie Lee Jackson (7 weeks ago) and his in-laws, Ray and Marie Lutes.

 

Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda and his special dog, Jackson, of the home; children, Nicole (Rick) Renick, Jere (Mandy) Jackson of Roscoe, Missouri, Wendi (Nicholas Adam) McLerran of Osceola, Missouri; grandchildren, Megan Lucas of Kansas City, Missouri; Derick (Lashawna) Renick of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Maddie, Millie and Jace Jackson of Roscoe, Missouri, Uriah Williamson, Tevin and Kyson McLerran all of Osceola, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Cammie and Natalie Mulkey of Osceola, Missouri, Cain Kottwitz of Osceola, Missouri, Abbi, DJ and August Renick of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; brother-in-law, Larry (Donna) Lutes of Nevada, Missouri; sister-in-law, Shirley (Vernon) Patterson of Granby, Missouri and their children; nephew, Robert Jackson; niece, Cristy (Jackson) Daniels (Carl) of Colorado; great nephew, Jacob; great niece, Bailee; great-great nieces and nephews Tammy, Ashley, Brian, Finley and Scout.  Jerry had many special friends, neighbors and fishing buddies.  He even considered Carter, Ethan, Brent and Rex Elliott as his other grandkids.

 

The family suggest memorial contributions to the Pleasant Springs (Oyer) Cemetery in care of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.
