She was the fifth child and third sister in a family of seven children. She always said you couldn’t pull anything over on her because she had four brothers.
Lois grew up in the Corbin community on Bear Creek, east of Osceola, Mo. She’s listed on the Cradle Roll of Bear Creek Methodist Church or, as she remembers it, the “white church on the hill.”
Lois graduated from Osceola High School in 1943.

Lois spent her adult years in Kansas City working as a waitress, in a photography studio, and then retired after 20 years as a clerk at Sears. She made many friends in these jobs. She treasured each and every one.
After her retirement, she lived south of Iconium and ran Jones’ Junk Store, where she sold items that she bought at auctions. She also volunteered at the St. Clair County Historical Society, where, among other things, she compiled lists of people buried in the county’s old cemeteries. She then returned to Kansas City until she moved to Lowry City three years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings and their spouses — Edgar (Lucille Sheldon), Nedra (Ray Hudson), Cleo (Inez McLerran), Leona (James Lasley), Jimmie Joe (Helena Luckan), Billie D. (Ramona Casteel); a niece, Callie Kershner, and a nephew, James Corbin Lasley.
Lois is survived by her son, Stanley Kermit Phipps; grandchildren, Quay Alan Phipps and Angela Korbin; and a great grandson, Harley Kunzler. She also is survived by nieces and nephews: Dennis Hudson, Wayne Hudson, Brian Hudson, Brent Hudson, Karla (Corbin) Schutte, Anita (Corbin) Hartley, Jennifer Susan (Lasley) Dimm, and Tim Corbin, as well as great nieces and nephews.
Lois will be buried in Iconium Cemetery near her parents and other relatives.
