Jones, Walter L. August 8, 1954 - October 8, 2011

Walter LuGene Jones was born August 8, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas to Harold Lee and Carole Donna (Westlund) Jones. He passed away on October 8, 2011 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri.

Walter grew up in the Rainey Hill area in St. Clair County. He was raised by his grandparents Albert and Gladys Opal Westlund in a one room school house.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Lennie) Raynor on August 14, 1972 and worked as a truck driver. They had one son Robert LuGene Jones (Boo) who was born in Weaubleau, Missouri. They later moved to Kansas City where he worked as a baker for Sunshine and at Owens Corning Fiberglass Company before returning to his first love, interstate truck driving.

Walter served his country as a truck driver in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1984. Walter moved to Texas where he met Tammy (Susan) Kappler. After spending 20 wonderful years together they made a lifetime commitment and married in 2005. The day after the wedding, Walter accepted the Lord and was baptized. Walter raised Tammy’s daughter Jessica Clark as his own. After Jessica passed away Walter was helping raise his granddaughter Katera. She was the apple of his eye who lovingly knew him as “Papa”. With all the trials and hardships they endured Walter and Tammy always knew that God would see them through. Walter was preceded in death by his grandparents Albert G. and Gladys Opal Westlund; brother, Edward L. Winterbower; daughter, Jessica Clark and her daughter, baby Clark and his best friend, Bobby Witt.

He is survived by his loving wife Tammy, of the home; son, Robert Jones and wife, Tori, Lamar, Missouri; mother, Carole Donna (Westlund) Mitchell, Pittsburg, Kansas; two sisters, Tyleen Uhlman (Claude), Golden City, Missouri and Anna M. Hazel (Stanley), Vandalia, Missouri; one brother, Robert T. Mitchell (Judy), Frontenac, Kansas; son-in-law, Randy Shivley, Bolivar, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, Tristen Jones, Brooke Jones, Emily Jones, Jace Jones, Tristen Stamper, Dakota Ray Clark and Katera Shivley, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
