Moore, Truman Gene

Truman Gene Moore “Poppy” 86, of Roscoe, Missouri was born in Hunt County, Texas to Lawrence and Elsie (Miller) Moore on June 23, 1934.  He passed away on July 11, 2020.

He was united in marriage to Nita Dean (Stevens) Moore on July 24, 1954. Together they moved to Independence, Missouri where they started a family. To this union four sons were born, Charles Gene, Lawrence Dale, Richard Dean, and Steven Wesley. Gene was a union laborer working in the Kansas City area until his retirement in 1974. After retirement, the family relocated to Roscoe, Missouri.

Gene and Nita opened their home as foster parents housing 31 children in 14 years. He enjoyed serving with the Roscoe Fire Department, coon hunting, fishing, and trapping. As a hobby Gene opened the “Rolling Hills Running Pen” where he welcomed many hunters to train their coyote dogs to run.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nita Dean: son Charles; his parents, as well as 5 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by three sons, Dale, Rick, and Steve; four grandchildren; Kara and husband Nick Colby of Osceola; Richard and wife Katie Moore of Joplin, Missouri; Maisie and husband David Benoit of Port Neches, Texas; and Shelby and husband Dan Wisner of Osceola, Missouri. Poppy was also proud to claim Max and Emma Bullock as his grandchildren as well. He leaves behind seven great-grandchildren whom he was immensely proud of: Nolan and Cameron Colby, Jackson and Finley Moore, Blair Benoit, and

Lydia and Truman Wisner. Gene is also survived by his sister Lola and husband Russ Christopher; two brothers Jess and wife Bea Moore, Sam and wife Jan Moore, as well as his brother-in-law Jim Ketchum, and many nieces and nephews.

Poppy never knew a stranger and always spoke his mind. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
