Ava Lois (Jackson) Fiedler-Nowlan was born October 2, 1932, the daughter of Peter A. and Alma E. (Landrum) Jackson at the family farm four miles east of Enterprise, Kansas and passed away May 7, 2014 at the Community Springs Healthcare Center in El Dorado Springs, Missouri after a short illness.
Ava grew up on the family farm and started school at the age of 4 years old so that she could be in the same class with her older brother, Lloyd. She attended the one room schools, Stony Point and Pleasant Hill in the Enterprise area and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School, Chapman, KS with the class of 1949.
After high school, she worked as a secretary at the Geary County Court House in Junction City, KS; the Ehrsam Mfg. Co. in Enterprise, KS; Roosevelt Elementary School in Hutchinson, KS and later in the church offices of the First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, KS.
On March 5, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) L. Fiedler of Enterprise, KS. They made their home in Enterprise, KS until moving to Hutchinson, KS in 1962. Bob preceded her in death on January 15, 1982. On July 2, 1982, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) R. Nowlan in Hutchinson, KS where they made their home until retirement. After retirement, they moved to El Dorado Springs, MO in April, 1997.
She enjoyed being outside especially mowing their large yard, gardening and taking care of her many flowers. She also enjoyed traveling and doing all the driving. Even after suffering a stroke several years ago, she still enjoyed being able to mow the yard and drive the car. One of the highlights of her travels was going to Sweden in 1994 with her sister, Phyllis and brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Twila, where they visited the home place of their grandparents and meeting many relatives that still live there.
She was a member of the Speedwell Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs, MO., where she served as Sunday school and Bible School teacher, pianist, organist and held other offices.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lester, Dale, Doyle, Dean and sister, Ruth King.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Nowlan of the home, daughter, Anita Fiedler (Tyrees Allen), Dallas, TX; son, Chris Fiedler (Joanne Wrick-Jones), Eudora, KS; granddaughter, Ashley Fiedler Schneweis; step-children, Patricia Chantler, Michael (Mary) Nowlan all of Hutchinson, KS; Kathy (Chris) Cannon, Haven, KS; Jeanne (Bruce) Shannon, Tulare, CA; Joni (David) DeVries, Lewellen, NE; Kevin (Deanne) Nowlan, Sterling, KS; brothers, Lloyd (Twila) Jackson, Abilene, KS; Ray (Phyllis) Jackson, Enterprise, KS; sister, Phyllis Miller, Boston, MA; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Jackson, El Dorado Springs, MO; Pam Jackson and Mary Fiedler, Abilene, KS; Darlene Mulanax, Enterprise, KS; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
