Durward “Cott, ” Leroy Scott, 85, went home to his Savior Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the home of his daughter in Springfield, Missouri. He was born June 27, 1925 in Wisdom, Missouri.

He is survived by his daughter Winnie Tuckness (Jack) of Springfield, his grandchildren Alex Tuckness (Anastasia) of Ames, Iowa, Kristen Gammon (Jeff) of Springfield, and Kasha Stewart (Todd) of Ozark, his great-grandchildren Elise, Joel, and Katherine Gammon and Jonathan, Molly, and Scott Stewart, his sister Nellie May Harper (Jack) of Osceola, his brothers Bob Scott (Shirley) of Independence and Bill Scott (Shirley) of Leavenworth, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.

Cott (or Scottie, Scotty, DL, etc.) started out as a farmer and construction worker before surrendering his life to Christ and answering the call to full-time ministry. He attended Southwest Baptist University and graduated from Midwestern Theological Seminary. He pastored several churches in Illinois and Missouri during his 48 years in ministry as well as serving as a chaplain at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton, Missouri. His ministry was characterized by boldness, optimism, faith, encouragement, joy, determination and intentionality. He was always looking for ways to share the gospel of Christ with everyone he met and develop disciples who could do the same.

When he wasn’t hard at work, Cott’s favorite pastime was hunting. He loved to hunt quail and coons. He enjoyed raising and training dogs for hunting. Cott was proud of his family and was always ready to entertain his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He modeled love and dedication as he cared for Loraine in her later years with Alzheimer’s.
