Carole Elizabeth (Blair) Smith, age 78, of rural El Dorado Springs went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at her home. Carole was born October 30, 1945 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Carole was adopted by Audrey (Young) and Robert Blair. Carole attended grade school in Bloomfield, New Brunswick in a 2-room country school and attended high school at Truro in Iowa, graduating in 1963. Carole married Jack Smith on October 30, 1964. Two children were born to this marriage, Gregory Lorne and Audrey Elizabeth. They were divorced in May 1982. Carole was married to Alfred “Rusty” York from November 1982 until Rusty’s death in October 1995. Carole and Jack remarried in 2003. They lived in rural Eldorado Springs.
Carole worked at the shirt factory and shoe factory in El Dorado Springs. She became an LPN in 1981 in Nevada, Missouri. She graduated with her Associate of Science in Nursing in May of 1991 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in May 2001. She worked as an LPN from 1981 until becoming an RN, then worked as an RN from 1991 until she retired in 2012. Carole was a member of Pape Christian Church. She was baptized at Sheldon Christian Church in 1982. She and Rusty moved to Bangor, Maine in 1991 and Carole returned to Missouri in 2003.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith, her adoptive parents, Audrey (Young) Wetmore and Robert Blair; step-parents Frank Wetmore and Alice Blair; and biological parents, Foster Woodworth and Laura Waugh, and siblings; brother George Woodworth; sisters Joan Carr, Nora Nason, and Joyce Bullock.
Carole is survived by her children, son Greg and friend Mitch of Aurora, Colorado and daughter Audrey Carter and husband Duane, two grandsons Jared and Isaac Carter of Springfield, Missouri; siblings, Stanley Wetmore and wife Daphne of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada; Walter Wetmore and wife Cindy Wetmore of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada; sister Margaret Blair of Saint Charles, Iowa; Nila Sheppard and husband Gordon of Lincoln, New Brunswick; Jackie London of Saint John, New Brunswick; Muriel Devarenne of Quispamsis, New Brunswick; Ronnie Woodworth and wife Esther of Tracy, New Brunswick; Paul Woodworth and wife Melissa of Wassis, New Brunswick; sister-in-law Billie Nell Bruce of rural El Dorado Springs, aunt-in-law Wilda Lee Cox of Bogard, Missouri; stepchildren Teresa, Dana, Renee, Connie, Danny, Kenny, Steve, Terry, Tim, Ron, and Podgie; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carole will be cremated. Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home in Osceola, Missouri. Visitation will be at 10:00 am. The Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 am with burial at Pleasant Springs Cemetery, Oyer, Missouri to follow. Lunch at Roscoe Christian Church, Roscoe, Missouri following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pape Christian Church Building Fund or a charity of their choice.
Carole’s children would like to extend their gratitude to all of our family and friends for their visits, food, prayers, and care assistance and to CMH Hospice for their extraordinary care of Mom, as well as their guidance to the family during this time.
