Cremation

James Michael (Mike) Byrne was born in Kansas City, Missouri to James E. (Jimmy) and Viola W. (Lamb) Byrne, along with his brothers Arthur Patrick (Pat) Byrne and Timothy (Tim) Lewis Byrne. He was a 1968 graduate of Osceola High School. He passed away at his home near Roscoe, Missouri, surrounded by family.

Mike married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Elizabeth (Liz) J. (Burrow) Byrne on June 8, 1968. Mike and Liz raised three wonderful children Debbie, Cheryl and Bob.

Mike was a welder by trade working at Pittman Steel in Grandview, Missouri, then at Hardwick Manufacturing in Grandview, Missouri, next at Armco Steel Kansas City, Missouri, and finally ending at Kansas City Power & Light Montrose Station Montrose, Missouri where everybody knew him as “Fat Mikey”. Mike retired from KCP&L in 1996 after 30 years. Mike was a self-proclaimed “River-Rat“ who loved to fish, hunt, and spend time with his family. He was a strong, honest, and hard-working man. He was very proud of his three children, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Viola Byrne.

Mike is survived by his wife Liz of the home, his children: daughter Debbie and husband Doug Jones of Clinton, Missouri, his daughter Cheryl and husband Billy Quessenberry of Osceola, Missouri, and his son Bob and wife Michelle of Republic, Missouri. His grandchildren Jesse, Kyle, Bethany, Kaelyn, Anthony, Ethan, Tyler, and Audrey and his great grandchildren Leroy, Harper, Linkin, and Ramie. Also surviving are his brothers Pat and wife Betty and Tim and wife Judy.

A favorite of Dad’s that he taught all of his kids and grandkids – Over the hill, a long way’s off, a monkey died of the whooping cough. His coat was red, his pants were blue, with a little bitty hole where his tale stuck through! We will miss you Daddy!
