Cochran, Merle B November 8, 1929 - April 5, 2014

Merle B. Cochran, age 84, was born on November 8, 1929, in the rural Tiffin area to Benjamin Harrison Cochran and Lola Carmen (Smith) Cochran and passed away on April 5, 2014. He was one of five children, three sisters and one brother, and he grew up in the rural area. He met his wife, Jo Ann at Nevada Hospital after a motorcycle accident. After their marriage in 1948 they moved to the Kansas City area briefly and then moved to the Tightwad area where they lived until moving back to the Tiffin area to the family farm in 1955, after the passing of his father. There they bore one son, Buell Cochran and one daughter, Katherine, who died in infancy. Merle worked hard all of his life as a farmer and cattleman with any job that was needed in between. He built many of the buildings on his farm, including a grade a dairy barn which he and Jo Ann worked for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1990 from milking to raise beef cattle. He was an avid hunter taking many trips to Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. He was always a character with smart joke and a warm smile. He was a Master Mason of thirty years attending Clintonville Lodge #442 in El Dorado Springs, of which he was a dedicated brother until a decline in health caused him to stop attending regularly. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Jo Ann Cochran; his daughter, Katherine Loraine in 1954; his sisters Evelyn and Wilma; and his brother, Blond. He is survived by his sister, Earlene; his son, Buell of El Dorado Springs; three grandchildren, Shelly Breedlove, Misty Cochran, and Scott Cochran; seven great grandchildren, Tylan, Brittany, Blake, William, Zoyie, Zeaka, and Emma; a host of cousins; and many friends. Merle was very respected by his family, friends and lodge brothers and will be sorely missed.
