Larry Paul Coleman was born March 4, 1940, in St. Clair County, (Tiffin), Missouri to Charley and Mildred Coleman. God called him home from St. Luke’s Hospice House in the early morning hours of Monday, October 21, 2024, and his earthly body was taken home to St. Clair County at sunrise. The youngest of three boys, Paul was welcomed by brothers, Kenneth and Wayne. On February 14, 1962, he married his beloved wife, Betty M. Akers, and had two children, Toni Lynn and Brian David. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, and Kylie Coleman, and he was so very proud of his great-granddaughter, Eleia Kelly Grace.

Larry Paul left St. Clair County to go to work at General Motors Leeds Plant in Kansas City. He retired in 1988, after 31 years of service. He was a proud member of UAW Local 93.

Larry Paul had a passion for God and never missed a chance to make sure everyone was Heaven-bound. He loved his family—he would tell Betty, when she was leaving the hospital, to be careful and to take care of the family, all the family. He was blessed with an intelligent mind, an incredible ear for music, a talent for playing the guitar, banjo, and other stringed instruments, and a wonderful singing voice. Some of his favorite things were – country music (George Jones in particular), the hymn “Amazing Grace”, the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals. There wasn’t a car or house repair that he couldn’t do – he always said there wasn’t anything you couldn’t do, if you wanted to bad enough. He was extremely proud to be a Democrat. He was very interested in history, particularly Civil War history, and was a member of The Friends of the Youngers and the Civil War Study Group. He loved hunting quail with his dad, brothers, son, nephew and his bird dogs, Abby and Dixie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Mildred Coleman; brother, Kenneth Coleman; son, Brian David Coleman; daughter-in-law Kelly Coleman, and son-in-law Ron Lockman.

He is survived by his beloved wife Betty M. Coleman; daughter, Toni Lynn (Coleman) Lockman; 3 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

Larry Paul was a country boy, so to honor him, the family would like to suggest country-casual attire. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to St. Lukes Hospice House or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Betty I just saw this. I am so sorry. I always enjoyed visitng with you and Larry. We had some great times at Friends of the Younger Meetings. Seems like so long ago at times. If I had seen this earlier, I’d have gone to graveyard service. He will be missed.

Sorry I couldn’t attend service. I would have been honored to be a pall bearer.
