Shirley Audrey Coleman, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, peacefully passed away on Christmas morning, leaving behind a legacy of love and treasured memories.
Born on July 16, 1935, in Mountain Home, Missouri, to Warren and Verla Murrell, Shirley was a graduate of Roscoe High School and a devoted member of her community. She married Clarence Junior Coleman on September 3, 1953, and together they raised three children: Ross Coleman, Sherri Baltz, and Lisa Self. Earlier this year, Shirley and Junior celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary, a true testament to their profound love for one another.
Shirley’s passion for gardening and cooking was evident throughout her life. She dedicated 33 years to the Roscoe C-1 School District, delighting students with her homestyle meals, and she also drove the school bus for 29 years. As a valued member of the Green Valley Community School, Shirley took pleasure in coordinating potluck dinners and cake walks, uniting people with her culinary talents and generous spirit.
Shirley was known for her outspoken, determined, and sassy personality, which endeared her to many. She held her family close to her heart and cherished the time spent on the farm in Roscoe. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life, and she embraced every moment with them. In her leisure time, Shirley enjoyed reading and playing cards. Gathered around the table with friends or family, laughter and spirited conversation filled the air as they engaged in friendly competition, whether it was a classic game of rummy or a strategic game of pitch.
She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, exceptional cooking skills, and the lasting impact she made on the hearts of those who knew her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her siblings Kenneth Murrell, Howard Murrell, Leroy Murrell, Thelma Huelett, Bernadine Gaddy, and her son-in-law Roger Self.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a community that will deeply miss her.
The family has chosen to hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Junior Coleman for a memorial bench at the Roscoe C-1 School District.
