Virginia Daugherty was born on August 12, 1923 in a small farmhouse on the outskirts of Lowry City, Missouri. She attended the school there and graduated as Valedictorian of her Senior class. After high school, she attended Southwest Baptist College. After college she moved to Kansas City where she was employed by Ford and the Missouri Employment Division. In the 1960’s Virginia took a position in Civil Service in the Social Security Division for over 30 years. She became one of the highest rated supervisors at that time and was awarded several national awards for her superior service. The main division of Social Security honored her by flying her to Baltimore Maryland to present her with her awards.
Virginia retired in the 1980’s and enjoyed traveling through out Europe and places such as Australia, Fiji, Hawaii and many of the mainland states. She also traveled to Canada and went on cruises to locals like Alaska. Virginia had a passion for photography which was evident in her many albums of her travels.
It was in the Baptist Church in Lowry City where as a young girl, Virginia accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She has had a very strong faith in the Lord her entire life and lived her entire life as a Humanitarian, a devoted daughter, sister and aunt and friend. Her life is a tribute to living a Christian life. There was never a time she didn’t think of others and always made sure everyone was taken care of before herself. She also donated money to many causes that were close to her heart.
Virginia is preceded in death in by her Mother Florence E. Moran, and her Father Ben Wesley Daugherty . She is survived by one brother Major Ben D. Daugherty, Sr, USMC retired and one sister-in-law Florene Ann Daugherty both of Camdenton, Mo. and one sister June Farris of Kansas City, Missouri. Virginia is also survived by two nieces Joy Sweigart of Jefferson City, Mo., Linda Hulett of Osage Beach, MO., and one nephew Ben D. Daugherty, Jr. of Camdenton, Mo., 7 great nieces and nephews and 14 great great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Virginia was very independent, proud and high spirited much like the old time pioneers. She touched many lives and will be missed by family, friends .
