Dodd, Pearl Ann January 6, 1915 - January 1, 2014

Pearl Ann Dodd, 98, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri passed away at Cedar County Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Pearl was born January 6, 1915 near Monmouth, Kansas to William and Clearcy (Bookout) Mackey. One of nine children, she grew up on a farm and was educated in a one-room schoolhouse. She moved to Parsons, Kansas in the 1930’s where she owned and operated three neighborhood grocery stores. During World War II she worked at the McDonnell Douglas aircraft plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma and later at Kansas Ordnance Plant in Parsons, Kansas. She spent much of her adult life in Parsons, Kansas as a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Parsons and Presbyterian Women. While living in Parsons she often helped as a poll worker in her local precinct. She was a member of the Katy Railroad Historical Society, attending meetings with many MKT retirees. After moving to El Dorado Springs in 1979 she was an active member of the Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and participant in the adult Sunday School class. She had recently transferred her church membership to the The First Christian Church in El Dorado Springs. Pearl volunteered in the elementary school classrooms and was involved with local Republican Party causes. Pearl was an excellent cook and loved to feed a kitchen full of family and friends. She was especially skilled in making pies. Gardening, reading, quilting, and working crossword puzzles were some of her favorite activities. She spent many evenings reading and studying the bible. She loved to travel and was the perfect navigator on road trips. The mountains of Colorado and beaches of Florida were some of her favorite destinations. She was fiercely independent, tenacious, loyal, and dedicated to her family. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Courtney D. Dodd and is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Claudine and Bob Burris, El Dorado Springs and Mary Ann and Dr. David Amos, Santa Fe, New Mexico; grandchildren and spouses, Christi Burris, El Dorado Springs, Courtney and David Buchmann, Prairie Village, Kansas, Joshua and Naomi Amos, Denver, Colorado, and Drs. Luke and Lauren Amos, Prairie Village, Kansas.
