Dodson, Lillian Mae May 1, 1926 - November 8, 2012

Lillian Mae (Givens) Dodson, 86, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Community Springs Health Care facility, El Dorado Springs, MO. She was born May 1, 1926 to Robert H. Givens and Dora (Wood) Givens at Gravette, AR. She married Warren G. Dodson on March 8, 1946 and to this union was born two sons, Joe and Jim. She worked at many jobs in her life. Before she married, she was a waitress. She followed her husband’s career in the Army living near Fort Crowder and Fort Leonard Wood, MO. She even lived in Japan for about a year after her first son’s birth. She later worked as a seamstress in several factories and eventually at the Lazy boy chair plant near Neosho, MO. In September of 1971, Lillian attended a revival meeting at Miami, OK. and was saved. Her life was never the same. She had an intense hunger to read and study her Bible. She loved to attend church services and to participate in singing gospel hymns. She spent many hours in prayer for her family, church family, and the many facets of God’s kingdom, especially world missions. In recent years, when she suffered from dementia, she still loved to sing hymns and could remember many of the words by heart. Lillian was a great cook and loved to have family around the table. She loved her grandchildren and was always glad for the opportunity to babysit when they were young. She followed each of them with her prayers and interest as they grew up, married, and had families of their own. Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Elsie Owens and Myrtle Gibbs; and three brothers, James Earl Givens, Garrett Givens, and William Givens. She is survived by one brother, Charles Givens and his wife Barbara – Blue Springs, MO.; her two sons, Joe Dodson and wife, Sherrel, of Stockton, MO. and Jim Dodson and wife, Mary, of Sarasota, FL. She also leaves 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
