Eva Fern Elliott, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 while recovering from surgery.
Fern was born August 28, 1928 to John and Agnes Sherman and grew up on the farm outside Lowry City, Missouri. She was the second of four daughters. Upon graduating from high school, she moved to Kansas City joining her older sister, Neoma, to live the city life and seek employment.
It was about this the time she met Ralph Elliott, the handsome Navy sailor who became her love of a lifetime. Fern and Ralph married on January 9, 1948 and shared their lives together for 64 years until his passing in 2012. Of the marriage, they had two daughters Peggy and Marsha.
After retiring back to Lowry City, Fern loved the peaceful tranquility of living in the country and enjoyed sitting on her back porch to watch the deer and turkeys wander into the yard. She thrived at being a homemaker but, also, loved being outdoors camping, hunting, fishing and attending bluegrass festivals with Ralph and their close friends. Fern and Ralph and their friends enjoyed many, many camping trips crossing the countryside far and wide just to explore what was out there to see. She never tired of accompanying Ralph wherever he wanted to wander in that old Bronco even where there were no roads to follow.
She was a lady of many talents and hobbies including: cooking, collecting recipes, sewing, embroidering, crocheting, knitting, oil painting, coloring books, crossword puzzles, playing cards with her card group buddies, and reading a good book, especially her Bible which she read faithfully every day. Fern cherished her Bible study and lunch group which met on Wednesdays, and set her weekly schedule around those days and when she was going to play cards next. She was a long time and active member of the Park Grove Christian Church always showing up to help out with church suppers and revivals. She liked to keep herself busy and active.
Fern is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Elliott; her parents, John and Agnes Sherman; her older sister, Neoma Creveling; her youngest sister, Nadine Greenwell; and grandson, Craig Keith.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Gale Kalberloh; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Reber Herdliska; grandchildren, Shawna Kalberloh and family; Dusty Kalberloh and family; and younger sister, June Ridgeway. She, also, leaves behind other extended family and many, many close friends and neighbors.
Fern will be missed by all, but we know she is happy and at peace to be reunited with Ralph and other loved ones in Heaven. We will see her again one day.
The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Landaker Cemetery, Lowry City, Missouri in care of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.
