Evans, Jerry W March 3, 1945 - April 12, 2012

Jerry Wayne Evans was born on March 3, 1945 in Humansville, Missouri to Lloyd Alexander and Dena M. “Johnson” Evans. He was the eighth child born out of 14 children. He passed away on April 12, 2012 at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, Missouri after a long illness. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Osceola and attended Osceola Schools. He joined the United States Navy on January 8, 1963 at the age of 18 and served his country proudly until January 10, 1975. At the time of his retirement, he was in charge of Damage Control on ship. He served in Vietnam in 1965-1966. He also served on the USS Dixie, USS Kittyhawk, the USS Pine Island and the USS Alamo. He was on board ship to pick up Astronauts from the Apollo 10 and Apollo 11 Space Shuttles. He passed the equator 3 times. He received the National Defense Service Metal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. After the service he built cabinets in Kansas City, Missouri. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his sisters, Janice Summers and Vera Greathouse and two brothers, Gary L. Evans and a brother who died at birth. He is survived by his sisters, Sylvia Greathouse, Osceola, Missouri, Christine Greathouse, Rockville, Missouri, Phyllis Cutler and husband Loren, Collins, Missouri, Sharon Smith and husband Bill, Kansas City, Missouri, Pamela Dutcher and husband Harold, Monegaw Springs, Missouri and Sandra Bayless and husband Jerry, Osceola, Missouri; 3 brothers, Travis Evans and wife Glenda, Osceola Missouri, Larrie E. Evans, Bolivar, Missouri and Terry L. Evans, Osceola, Missouri along with many sweet nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
