Dixie Dean Faulkner was born November 1st, 1934 to Earl and Agetha Gates in Lowry City. Dixie passed away on January 26th, 2017 surrounded by family in Clinton, MO.
On August 1st, 1953, Dixie married the love of her life, Charles Raymond Faulkner. Together they had 7 kids, Cheryl, David, Steve, Brian, Mark, Lori and Jami.
Anyone who knew Dixie knows that her home was a place that was welcome to all. So much in fact, that she rarely ever locked her doors, or even closed them for that matter. Whether it was her own children, her grandchildren, or friends of the family, Dixie’s house was always a safe place for anyone who wished to visit. Dixie always managed to make sure her visitors were well-fed, whether they came in hungry or not.
One of the most memorable traits of Dixie’s was her sense of humor. People who knew her well can likely recall several occasions in which she made them double over laughing, often times from jokes that some might consider “inappropriate” for a lady. Unafraid to speak her mind, Dixie would gladly joke back and forth with the guys and fit in well with Raymond and the boys’ many friends.
Dixie’s main focus in life was always family. Between children, grandchildren, and eventually, great-grandchildren, she was always a loving figure in the lives of the ones close to her. Every Christmas, her children gladly accepted her homemade German chocolate cake, and every fall her grandchildren were recruited for the important task of picking up and cracking pecans that she collected under the trees near the hospital.
She earned the nickname “P.I. Dick” because every Friday and Saturday her and her aunt Pruitt would load up Jami and Lori in the car and park downtown at the square to spy on the other children, making sure that no one was being too mischievous.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Agatha; her siblings Junior, Bernie, and Jack; her husband Raymond; and her son, Steve.
She is survived by her sister Pattie Hudson; her two nephews, Matt and Mike, and niece, Ronda; her children Cheryl, David, Brian, Mark, Lori and Jami; her grandchildren David, Russell, Tina, Michelle, Lisa, David II, Steven, Rocky, Stephanie, Rachael, BJ, Johnathon, Brandy, Misty, April, Stevia, Destiny, Chris and Brittany; and 38 great-grandchildren.
