Joyce Daphene Gilbert, age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, at Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born February 20, 1940, in Mountain Home, Arkansas to Ollie and Opal (Biggers) Taylor.

Joyce graduated from Parkview High School, Springfield, MO, in 1958 and began working alongside her mother-in-law, Ethel Barclay Hicks, at Barclay’s Bridal. Eventually, Joyce took ownership of the business, becoming a cherished part of the Springfield community.

On August 23rd, 1985, Joyce married Louis Gilbert, Sr. in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. For 39 wonderful years, they enjoyed building friendships through their love of bluegrass music and their Christian faith.

A devoted Christian, Joyce was a member of Sac River Cowboy Church, where she found strength and peace in her faith. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family and her faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie “Russell” and Opal (Biggers) Taylor, her brothers, Daryl Taylor and Dwight Taylor, her sisters, Deloris “Punky” Taylor, D. Yvonne Choate, and Danna Wright, and her stepson, Louis Gilbert, Jr.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Louis; her daughters, Susan Vogler of Allen, TX, and Sharron (Derek) Hemphill of Springfield, MO; her sister, Wanda Gateley; her grandchildren, Taylor Dennis, Kendall (Caleb) Benner, and McKenna Dennis; her great-grandchildren, Luna Dennis and Kynison Benner; her stepchildren, Lori (Jerri) Gilbert, Lynn (Angela) Gilbert, and Liberty (Doug) Long, along with their children and grandchildren.

Sheldon Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, MO, will hold visitation on Thursday, September 12th, at 11 a.m, with funeral services at 12 p.m. A procession will follow to King’s Prairie Cemetery.

Sac River Cowboy Church – Event Center, 6448 State Highway EE, Springfield, MO, 65802, will host a dinner at 5 p.m. for all who wish to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sac River Cowboy Church.
