“Earl “Peewee” Russell Gillispie, 79, passed away at Advena Living of Bonner Springs in Bonner Springs, Kansas on Wednesday December 15th, 2021. Earl was born in Osceola, Missouri to William George and Silvia (Anglin) Gillispie.
Earl grew up in Clinton, Missouri but traveled around a lot in his teenage/early adulthood for work and to help his family. He had many careers including owning his own business, tuckpointing, and law enforcement. He served as a corrections officer and process server for Bourbon County. He moved to Prescott, Kansas with his wife Cindy in 2009 where he spent his time gardening, yard work, and keeping busy with outdoor hobbies. He loved all his pets but his pride and joy was Rusty, his Jack Russell. He spent his last few years supporting and taking care of his wife once she was diagnosed with ALS and then focused on spending time with his daughters and grandchildren once Cindy had passed. In his free time, he would read. He loved continuously learning new things.
Earl was a hard worker with a rough exterior but a soft heart. He was friends with everyone who knew him, and they probably called him by his better-known nick name “Peewee”. He always had the best dad jokes and would help anyone that came across him in need. He is greatly missed but we will always have the great memories we created with him.
Earl is survived by his daughters Morgan Gillispie, Kathy Messer, and husband Marty; his grandchildren Jason Gillispie and wife Carrie, Kristine Culbertson and husband Jeremy, Kelsie Hess, and Jackie and Hayden; his great grandchildren Jaidyn, Chase, and Ethan.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife Cindy Gillispie, whom he married February 3rd, 1990; his parents, Bill and Silvia Gillispie; his daughter Lora Ann; his brothers, Lawrence Gillespie, George Gillispie, Charles Gillispie, and Jimmy Gillispie; Robert Gillispie and his sisters Zelda Stevens and Viola Mary.
His family plans to have a celebration of life later this year for Earl and all who loved him.
