He attended school to the tenth grade, and then went to work for his grandfather, George Green’s lumbermill with his father, Harry Green and from there went into carpentry with his father.  At age 17, he joined the Army and served in Sasemo, Japan as a guard during WWII.  Upon returning home, he met and married Opal Louella VanSant who had an 18-month-old daughter, Linda from her first marriage.

His family expanded with birth of Carolyn Ann on March 23, 1952, and subsequently adopted Linda.  He was a faithful and loving father, husband for almost 55 years, and a Godly man of prayer from early in his life.  He loved serving God and served in the Church of the Nazarene where he was a member, an usher, board member, Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School bus driver when called upon at the three churches where he attended over the years (Council Bluffs, Iowa Central Church, Granite City First Church, Granite City, Ill. and Wheatland Church of the Nazarene, Wheatland, Mo.) He went to work as a shot dropper of lead pellets for National Lead Company in Omaha, Nebraska and continued after a transfer to Granite City, Illinois in October 1960 until he had to retire at age 55 because of bilateral hip replacements.  He retired to Collins, Missouri where he built a third house for his family next to his inlaws, Everett and Alice VanSant.

He was preceeded in death by his wife Opal Louella Green and daughter Carolyn Ames, his parents Harry and Mattie Green, brothers Noel, Gene and David Green, one sister Ethel Eustice.  He is survived by his daughter Linda Kohler, three grandchildren Lisa Dobler, Lori Ibarra, and Brian Ames, greatgrandchildren Jordin Marcum, Audrey Ibarra, Emily Ibarra, Zane Dobler,Jordan Wesley Richard, Katie Lynn Baker ,Bevin Ames, Zackary Orville Lynn Ames, Ashley Katelynn Ames, Cory Ames and a host of nieces and nephews.
