Lowry City, MO – Carol Nadine (Deanie) Greenwell – age 80, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 from her fight with pancreatic cancer.
Deanie was born on Sept. 1, 1941 to John and Agnes (Carroll) Sherman in Appleton City, MO, the youngest of four girls.
She grew up on a farm outside of Lowry City where she stayed until she graduated. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Lowry City and was baptized on April 21, 1957. After graduation, she moved to the Kansas City area and lived and worked there, including Lake Lotawana for a few years.
On a cold and snowy day, she married William (Bill) Greenwell on Jan. 19, 1963, (also his 21st birthday) and they were married for nearly 59 years living outside of Lowry on a farm raising cattle. Of this marriage, they had a daughter, Karla, and two sons, Jay (J.O.) and Lee Aaron.
Over the years, Deanie worked at Commerce Bank & Trust in downtown K.C, the Landmark Restaurant, babysitting for close friends/neighbors and spent 20 years as the City Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Lowry City. All the while, also being a homemaker & farm wife as well.
She was a proud 1959 graduate of Lowry City High School and loved attending & helping prepare for class reunions and get-togethers with classmates who became lifelong friends.
When she had the chance, she liked to go visit the kids/grandkids, and vacations that usually included a casino somewhere along the way. Deanie was a wonderful friend, wife, mother & “Grandma Babe”. She enjoyed making homemade ice cream in the summertime and watching the fireworks. She loved spending time with family & friends, and never liked to miss the grandkid’s birthdays, deer season with friends stopping by to visit, and Christmas was always very special to her as well. Her helpful hands and loving, caring ways will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Neoma Creveling, and grandson, Landon Youtsey.
Deanie is survived by her husband, Bill Greenwell of the home; sisters Fern Elliott of Lowry City, MO and June Ridgeway, of New Florence, MO; daughter, Karla (Chip) Youtsey, grandchildren Levi, and Keshia (Ethan) Clark and great grandsons Aspen, Zayne, & Vance of Winston, MO; Son Jay Greenwell of Columbia, MO & grandson Daniel of St. Louis, MO; Lee Aaron (Kimie) and grandchildren, Trevor & Lily of Harrisonville, MO as well as other extended family and many, many close friends and neighbors.

January 16, 2022 at 1:22 pmWe were so very saddened to hear about Deanie’s passing. She, along with other members of her family, have been a part of my family for as long as I’ve been on this earth. She had such a sweet loving personality and we loved to reminisce about days gone by when she spent a great deal of time at our home hanging out with her best friend, my big sister, Kay Chapman Keeling. Mine and Don’s thoughts and prayers are with the entire Greenwell/Sherman family. She will be missed my many!
