Lonnie Ray Gurley was born April 21, 1954 in Clinton, Missouri, son of Ralph and Magdaline Gurley, the third of four children. He passed away July 26, 2022, peacefully at his home in Lees Summit, Missouri surrounded by family and friends.
His early life and education was on the farm in rural Lowry City, Missouri. In high school he excelled in basketball, baseball, and music, graduating in 1972.
Not long after high school he moved to Kansas City and joined Painters & Allied Trades District Local #9, where he worked hard until his retirement. After retirement he spent his days hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Lonnie enjoyed barbecuing, playing the guitar, listening to good ol’ country music, mushroom hunting, painting, and watching Nascar races.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Magdaline Gurley, brother David Gurley, sister Linda Lysinger, and niece Sharon Gurley. Lonnie is survived by his children Pamela (Matt) Cleveland, Jodie Gurley, and Cody Gurley, four grandchildren Jackson, Daisy, Eli, and Hudson, brother Roger (Lisa) Gurley, sister-in-law Linda Gurley, brother-in-law Junior Lysinger, a host of nieces and nephews,
and friend Sue Lewis.
Lonnie was a great father, brother, and papa. He was a loyal friend, and was always there for you when you needed him. He loved to make everyone laugh, and always knew the right thing to say to put a smile on your face. He will be forever missed.
