Lawrence Eugene Hadsall was born May 21, 1936 to Glen and Helen (Turner) Hadsall in Nora Springs, Iowa. He passed away February 11, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by his family.
Larry attended school in Nora Springs, IA, until his family moved to Missouri, where he continued his education at Weaubleau, Chalk Level, and Osceola. On August 1, 1955, Larry enlisted in the Marine Corp as a Private. Larry retired October 1, 1985, as a Gunnery Sergeant, totaling 30 years of service. Larry married June Marie (Vickers) on March 05, 1960. To this union two Children, Helen and James (Glen), were born. After the passing of his wife, June, Larry was united in marriage to Eva Louise (Smith-Roth) on December 4,1999. To this union Larry gained an additional daughter, Pamela, and two sons, Anthony and Bryan.
Larry’s hobbies included his family, the old-time Christian and bluegrass gospel music, hunting, card playing, woodworking, being a shenanigator, and fishing. His fishing led him into his Marine Corp career at the early age of 20. He would credit the late Shirley Collins, of Osceola, for putting him on the right path. He loved serving his country and his Lord. He was a veteran of Vietnam, actively serving for 20 years and reserves for 10 years. The saying, “once a Marine, always a Marine” held true with Larry. He kept in diligent contact with his fellow Marine brothers, with yearly gatherings and regular phone calls with them. Larry was very proud of all of his nephews, but especially the nephew’s serving their country. He enjoyed hassling Troy, often saying “isn’t that right Major Hadsall?” Larry was proud of Tom acquiring the rank of Rear Admiral in the Navy. Larry would often comment to his fellow Marines, Tom’s son, Phillip, who graduated the Naval academy in Annapolis, Maryland, chose his career in the Marines. Larry was proud of the fact that Phillip became a Marine. Larry enjoyed going back to Cherry Point, North Carolina, to visit.
Many times Larry commented, “I was blessed with two loving wives and a house full of children. He always invited all into his home, had a pot of coffee on, and cards on the table ready to play.
Larry prayed daily for his country, its leaders, and his family.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Helen Hadsall; son Glen Hadsall; brother, Gary Hadsall.
Larry is survived by his wife of 22 years, Eva; daughters, Helen McDowell (Ron) of Fair Grove, Pamela Wharton of Ozark; sons, Anthony Roth (Jamie) of Osceola, and Bryan Roth (Betty) of Taberville; brothers, Omer Hadsall (Judith) of Osceola, Gordon Hadsall (Delores) of Clinton; sisters, Gloria Wears (Harold) of Lowry City, Gladys Settle of Stockton, Charlotte Becker of Odessa, Donna Brock of Clinton, Frances Keyes (Greg) of Osceola, and Colleen Vaughn of Clinton along with 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
