Paul Floyd Hooper was born July 15, 1940 to Floyd and Buelah “Sally” (Murray) Hooper on their farm in the Bear Creek Community east of Osceola, Missouri. He passed to his heavenly home on February 25, 2021 at the Community Springs Nursing Home in El Dorado Springs, Missouri after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He grew up on the family farm milking cows and raising crops. He attended grade school at Bear Creek and graduated from Osceola High School in 1958.
Paul married the love of his life, Dorsha Darlene Smith on July 16, 1960. To this union three sons were born, Gregory Paul, Daniel Roy and Alan Dwayne. Paul and Dorsha lived in Kansas City the first year of their marriage and then moved to Dorsha’s childhood home near Roscoe, Missouri to take over the family farm of her parents, Roy and Wretha Smith. Paul and Dorsha proudly became the fifth generation to farm this land where they raised their boys and lived the remainder of their years together.
He worked at Western Auto in both Osceola and Kansas City and a few years at Witt Printing Co. in El Dorado Springs before turning to farming as his full time occupation in 1971. Farming is what he loved to do. With Dorsha by his side, they taught their boys the value of hard work and good Christian morals, which would be their legacy to pass on. Working seemed to be Paul’s favorite pastime, but on occasion he would stop long enough to let the boys go fishing…but not too long. Three boys needed to be kept busy! In his later years, Paul seemed to find more time for grandkids and a little fishing for himself.
Paul gave his life to Christ through Baptism in March of 1961. He served his Lord as an Elder and respected leader for many years in the Roscoe Christian Church. He was a role model and example for many and a friend to all. Paul had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. He was often called on to sing at funerals for members of the community. With Dorsha playing piano and good friend Vera Keeton singing with him, they comforted many with their music. Paul was quick to help anyone in need with whatever he had.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Sally Hooper; his wife, Dorsha Hooper; infant granddaughter, Samantha Jo Hooper and brother-in-law, Don Hodges.
Paul is survived by his three sons, Greg and his wife Donna of Roscoe, Missouri, Dan and his wife Loni of Moyie Springs, Idaho and Alan and his wife, Tonya of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; siblings, Carl and his wife Jeanette Hooper of Webster, Minnesota, Jack and his wife Hazel Hooper of Osceola, Missouri and Linda Hodges of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Steve (Leah) Barnes, Shauna (Jesse) Clark, Paul (Katie) Hooper, Shelby Hooper, Dani Hooper, Courtney (Daniel) Wosoba and Roy Hooper; eleven great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends,
Paul Enjoyed his life and will be greatly missed.
