Final Disposition

Cremation

Clara Ellen Horner was born January 17, 1943, in Ottawa, Iowa to parents, Harry Eugene Davis and Irma Marie Moore.

On December 7, 1957, Clara married her first love, Edwin (Eddie) Leland Horner. They relocated to California so that Edwin could continue his service to our country in the United States Air Force. It was in August of 1961 that they welcomed their first child, Brenda Lynne, into the world. The family moved back to Iowa shortly thereafter before the birth of their second child, Jeffrey Edwin in December of 1962. With the majority of Edwin’s family in Missouri, they relocated to Roscoe, Missouri, and then to Osceola, Missouri, where they welcomed their final two children Brett Leland (1964) and Jeanne Ellen (1970), and lived out their days as a family. The family lost Edwin in November of 1983.

As most all will remember, Clara was the friendliest of faces you would see, including during her more than 20 years working the nurses station as Ward Clerk at the Sac Osage Hospital. Her calling to care for others was not just a career but a lifelong passion, and she touched countless lives in her decades of service. We would all do well to remember that smile, that sweet word of encouragement, and her hugs to anyone in need of one. As much of a chatterbox as she was, she would always need to stay busy.

While helping part-time at the Lowry City laundromat she would meet and fell in love with John Christiansen. They were true partners with dreams of buying land and building a home. Although they never legally married, they exchanged vows during a vacation in Utah. The land was then purchased and cleared, but John unfortunately did not see the home before his passing. The house was built and became a home to all of Clara’s children and grandchildren. The home and property remain in the family as well as the memories made there over the years.

Clara loved and adored her family. She had many amazing friends in her life that were so close to her that she would call you family. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, and the many colleagues whose lives she touched. Her memory will live on in the lives she enriched and the hearts of all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by: Edwin Leland Horner (husband), John Christiansen (partner), Gilbert Rolla Adrian (grandson), and Ryan Edwin Kelly (grandson).

She is survived by: (children) Brenda Lynne McIntire, Jeffrey Edwin Horner, Brett Leland Horner, and Jeanne Ellen Graff; (grandchildren) Keith Kelly, Derek Horner, Lara Damiana, Megan Boyles, Jordon Horner, and Brody Horner; (great grandchildren) Ellie Horner, Brayden Horner, Ander Horner, Mordekai Kelly, Emery Horner, Koehn Horner, Briggs Horner, Judson Horner, Alayna Kelly, and Ryan Kelly II.

My condolences to the Horner family. I have fond memories of Clara working for many years for my parents in the floral shop/greenhouse. She made many lovely arrangements for all occasions over the years and would help my family in other ways when needed. She will be missed.
