Howard Arthur Howell, the youngest of five children, was born on December 10, 1925 in Orla, Missouri to Arthur and Clara Bell (Jones) Howell. He passed away on December 13, 2013.
Howard’s family moved to Lebanon, Missouri where he spent most of his youth and graduated in 1944 from Lebanon High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 22, 1946 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, as a Private First Class. Howard’s duty was to drive the Heavy – 931 truck in the 1259 combat unit at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was awarded the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged on April 11, 1947.
After returning to Lebanon, Howard met and married Nadine Bradshaw in 1948. To this union four children were born, Carolyn, Ron, Gary and Larry.
Howard ran a stave and heading mill for ten years. He also got to work with his brother, Wayne at Howell Stave Company. In 1977, Howard married Mae Barnes. He enjoyed traveling the US before settling down in El Dorado Springs, Missouri for the remainder of his days.
He enjoyed his family very much and thrilled us all with stories of days gone by about hunting and fishing.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara; two brothers, Wayne and Steve; two sisters, Edra and Lema; and granddaughter in-law, Sara Lyneigh Whitesell.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Mae Howell; four children, Carolyn D (Howell) Whitesell and husband K. Lee of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, Ron H Howell and wife, Yvonne of Walker, Missouri, Gary L. Howell of Florida Keys, Florida, and Larry D. Howell of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
