Helen V. Jones was born in Baker, Mo., to Claude and Iva Loyd Foster on February 23, 1918. She departed this life on February 5, 2012. She was the eldest of four daughters. She graduated from Deepwater High School and Central Missouri State Teacher’s College. She taught school for many years, both elementary and high school. She retired after 20 years in the Lowry City school system.
She joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942 and was discharged in 1945.
Helen married Melville (Metz) Jones on May 3, 1947. He was the love of her life and they enjoyed nearly 60 years together on their farm in Park Grove. He preceded her in death in June 30, 2006. Helen was a member of the Park Grove Christian Church where she faithfully taught Sunday School for many years.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Hazel Foster and Mildred King. She is survived by her sister, Emma Jane Anderson of Kansas City, and two nephews, Duane (Linda) King and Claude (Susan) Anderson, and two nieces, Fran Anderson and Wanda (Dan) Davenport, five great nieces and nephews, and three great great nieces and nephews. She also is survived by many of Metz’s nieces and nephews who have remained close to her.
