Kathy Brown (Kathryn Dee)
Kathy Brown of Osceola, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Saturday, August 30, surrounded by her loving family.
Born December 9, 1951, in Appleton City, Missouri, to Walt and Delia Lyons, Kathy spent her entire childhood in Osceola. A proud graduate of Osceola High School’s Class of 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Brown, later that same year. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.
Over the years, Kathy and Jack lived in Belton, Kansas City, Grandview, and Peculiar as Jack pursued his career at Armco Steel. Their son Jim was born in 1970, followed by their daughter Karyn in 1976. A devoted mother, Kathy never missed a game, concert, or school event, always actively involved in PTA and anything that supported her children.
She also loved traveling and seeing America’s mountains. While the Grand Teton’s were her favorite, she loved them all from the Appalachians to the Rockies and Cascades.
In the mid-1970s, Kathy began teaching piano from her home—a passion that blossomed into a lifelong calling. Over more than four decades, she taught hundreds how to play, instilling not only musical skills but a deep love for the art. In the 1980s, she expanded her teaching to Grandview Christian School, where she also served as Athletic Director. Some of her proudest moments were spent watching Jim & Karyn excel and win state championships as coaches there.
After Jack’s retirement in 2001, the couple returned to their roots in Osceola, settling on the family farm. Kathy continued teaching music and piano, this time at Clinton Christian Academy. In 2007, she founded the school’s athletic program and took on the role of Athletic Director there as well. When she wasn’t in the classroom or gymnasium, she and Jack were often on the road, cheering on their grandchildren at games and tournaments across the Midwest.
A vibrant part of the Osceola community, Kathy was also known for her dedicated work on the Annual Osceola Christmas Pageant—a tradition that brought joy to many.
Kathy’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. Baptized in the Osage River at a young age, she remained steadfast in her devotion to the Lord throughout her life. She was an active member of the Osceola Christian Church before moving to Kansas City, later attending Grandview Assembly of God for nearly three decades. Upon returning home, she became a devoted member of Osceola Assembly of God. In every church she attended, she served faithfully—playing piano, singing in the choir, and supporting her pastors in any way she could. She was a true prayer warrior, lifting up countless others in prayer over the years.
Kathy is survived by her beloved husband Jack; her children Jim (Angie) Brown and Karyn Dutcher; grandchildren Jake Brown, Noah (Whitney) Dutcher, Reice Brown, and Abigail Dutcher; great-granddaughters Elaine and Nora Dutcher; her brother Gary Lyons; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Her life was a testimony of love, faith, music, and selfless service. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

    Jack and Family,
We were so sorry to hear of Kathy’s passing. She was a very kind and loving Lady. She was music teacher and athletic director at the Clinton Christian Academy when my granddaughter attended there and I remember well she was loved by all the students. Jack, we know you loved her dearly because of the times you spoke of her at work. We know it will be tough on you and all the family without her but we pray God will comfort you all through the time of mourning and that you will take comfort from all the good times and the love she gave. We will continue to check in from time to time. We love you, Derrel and Sheri Warner

Kathy was my music teacher at Clinton Christian Academy somewhere around 2002-2005. She gave me my first solo as well as a lead role in one or our Christmas musicals. She was extremely kind and very knowledgeable. She was very dedicated and hard working. I can still see her sitting behind the piano leading us in songs. She was a great teacher. My heart goes out to you and your family.
