McGinness, Barbara Ann July 1, 1945 - January 27, 2018

Barbara Ann (Gabel) McGinness was born July 1, 1945 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. On January 27, 2018 she passed away surrounded by her loved family in her home in Clinton, Missouri.

Born to Rufus R. Gabel and Jewel (Milton) Gabel. Barbara’s mother preceded her in death in the spring of 1950. Barbara’s aunt Elsie and uncle Charlie came to help Rufus raise Barbara from an early age. During her junior high years, Rufus met and married Sidney Hedges Slezinger and the family grew with brother’s and a sister; Jack, Greg, Janice and Paul. Barbara graduated from Southwest High School in May 1963 and met Patrick McGinness in August of 1963 at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. Their courtship lasted until September 6, 1964 when they were united in marriage in Kansas City, Missouri. The newlyweds moved to WaKenney, Kansas where they worked for Patrick’s father Dr. McGinness before moving to Clinton, Missouri in the fall of 1965 where they began to raise their children; Shannon Leih, Jerri Lynn and Patricia Ann. Barbara was very active and had many hobbies including bowling, crochet, sewing and cooking. She earned her bachelors degree from Central Missouri State University (UCM) in Warrensburg, Missouri and later her masters degree in adult education. She enjoyed being with her family and watching her children and grandchildren grow. She was a very supportive and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was loved by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rufus Reber Gabel, Jewel Milton Gabel, Sidney Hedges Slezinger Gabel; her aunts and uncles; brothers Jack Slezinger, Gregory Slezinger and Paul Gabel.

Her survivors include her husband Patrick McGinness of the home; daughters Shannon McGinness and life partner Carletta of Clinton, Missouri, Jerri Scaggs of Clinton, Missouri, Trish McGinness and wife Michelle of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Tracy Armstrong and husband Andrew of Clinton, Missouri, Tatum McGinness-Wood of Kansas City, Missouri and Nash McGinness-Wood of Kansas City, Missouri.
