Alfred Vernon Nelson 63, of Lowry City, Missouri passed away October 27, 2024, at home. He was born April 29, 1961, in Orville, California to Casandra (Cassie) Sears and Henry V. Ramsey, and later was adopted by James E. Nelson.
Alfred was born and raised in California. He enlisted into the Army January 18, 1980, rank PV1. He got married and had two children, a son Joshua Nelson, and daughter Heather Marie Nelson. After Alfred’s divorce, he moved to Clinton, Missouri. He was an advisory council member for the Clinton School District from 1992 to 1993. Alfred married Donna Jane Hestand December 11, 1991, and they had one son together, Michael Wayne Nelson. He was a widower when he met and married Melinda K Gates Haverland Nelson on December 12, 2006. He was married 4 times. Alfred was baptized March 25, 2007, at River Church in Warsaw, Missouri.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, climbing mountains, he loved the outdoors. He liked collecting watches, and knives. He also liked Indian pictures and figurines.
When Alfred lived in California, he liked being out in the fields combing with the harvester. At a young age he learned about manual labor from his dad James Nelson. He dug holes and ditches for pools, was a mason and a contractor as well. He used to say he would rather run machinery than do manual labor.
Alfred was preceded in death by his 3rd wife Donna Jane Hestand Nelson, son Michael Wayne Nelson, Henry V. Ramsey, James E. Nelson (dad), Mother Casandra A. Sears McNerney, 3 older siblings died shortly after birth.
He is survived by his wife Melinda K. Gates Haverland Nelson, son Joshua Nelson, daughter Heather Marie Nelson Phillips, two sisters: Debra Brown, and Brenda Brown, brother Brian Brown, stepchildren: Cecilia K. Gates Jones, Christina M. Haverland Littleton, Stephanie H. Haverland Myers, Anthony R. G. Haverland, 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many friends.
