Carl Herman Nitsche, Jr. was the second child born to Carl Herman and Mabel Rena (Greene) Nitsche on August 2, 1926. He passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2018. Junior was born in the family farmhouse near Roscoe, Missouri. He attended Benton Green Elementary School and graduated from Roscoe High School in 1943. Junior entered the Army in 1944. Upon returning from the service he worked in Kansas City for two years, then returned to the farm to help his dad.
On October 7, 1953, he married the love of his life, Jewel Dene Williams. To this union two sons were born: Carl Douglas and Herman Dwight Nitsche. Junior thoroughly enjoyed his sons and loved going to their school activities. He enjoyed playing baseball with the boys and helped coach their summer baseball teams. When the boys married, Junior loved his daughters-in-law, Anne and Pam, as his own.
Junior was baptized at Roscoe Christian Church and faithfully served as long as his health permitted. Even as Junior’s health declined, Sunday mornings at church were always something he looked forward to. Junior was also a member of the Roscoe Circle Lodge #342 A.F. & A.M. for 65 years.
Honesty was one of Junior’s many virtues. He taught his sons to be honest and to work hard which he was very proud of. Junior was happiest among his family and friends. Family dinners, playing cards, farming and providing for his family are all special memories. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids on the farm, including truck rides, picking up walnuts and fishing in the pond (just as long as he wasn’t the one cleaning the fish).
Junior enjoyed attending all the grandkids’ school activities and ball games. In his later years, he regretted not being able to attend as many of the great-grandkids’ events. For fun, Junior really enjoyed travelling with Jewel Dene to many different places. He enjoyed every minute of these trips and was able to forget about his many responsibilities at home.
In work, and in life, Junior was known to say “you’ve got to have a plan,” and this was evident in how he lived each day, especially in the work he put into raising his family and building his farm. He always knew what job needed done, when the right time was to do it, and did what was needed to see that it was not just done, but done right.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mabel Nitsche, sisters Jewel Dean Nitsche Shults and Wilma Jean Nitsche Keeton and brother Myrle Lynn Nitsche.
Junior is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jewel Dene Williams Nitsche, sons Carl Douglas (Pam) Nitsche of Lenexa, KS and Herman (Anne) Nitsche of Appleton City, grandchildren and families Mickey (Christy) Nitsche, Andrew, Evan and Elizabeth of Lee’s Summit, Katy (Scott) Brownsberger, Cami, Shea and Cal of Appleton City, Kelly (Darren) Tindall, Brett, Ryan, Grant and Addie of Appleton City, Jeff Nitsche and Adam Nitsche of Kansas City, MO and Eric (Hannah) Nitsche, Blake and Jack of Arkansas City, KS.
