Nixon, George February 17, 1918 - February 22, 2017

George Thomas Nixon Born February 17, 1918 in Liberty Township Mo. Father George Washington Nixon Mother Cora Mae Nixon. Dad would tell me stories of him growing up with his brother John and sister Louetta. He said back then was hard times. They were poor by money standards but rich in other ways. They had a garden and raised chickens and had a milk cow. He and his brother worked with their dad doing odd jobs for neighbors. He would tell stories of hunting and trapping anything to keep the family going. As he would stress those were not the good ole days. As he got older he worked for a family in a rock quarry. Then he lied about his age and got into the CCC Camp. Said it paid $5.00 a month which he would send home to help the family. Inlisted in the Navy July 29, 1940. He was on the Ship USS Dale 353DD when the attack of Pearl Harbor happened. December 7, 1941. He was worker in the boiler room. He was eating breakfast when general quarters sounded. He said he had no Idea was was going on out side of the ship he just hoped for the best. He was discharged August 7, 1946. Ratings held ASF3C / F2C /WT2C1 ended as WT1C Honors Held Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon 1 Star, American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal 14 Stars. Vessal & Station Served on NRS Kansas City Mo. USN RS and AGC Bklyn. NY, USNTS Gt. Lks I11, USS Dale 353DD and USS Randolf (CU-15) PSC Lido Beach LI, NY. Proceeded in Death by Father, Mother,Brother,Sister 1st wife Bertha Marie, Son David Nixon 2nd wife Junanita Hinkle and many relatives of Claus and Green Family. Survived by Son Michael Nixon, wife Barbara His 1st wife Julie Clegg and Randy Hinkle and wife Edna Jo also Richard Hinkle and Kathy Stoumbaugh. Grandchildren are Jaison and Jacob Nixon, Wes Hinkle, Mike and wife Amy, Shawn, Dustin and wife Charla, James and wife Stacy Hinkle also Ryan Stoumbaugh, Kent and wife Leslie Stoumbaugh. Great Grandson Taylor Nixon To the best Dad a son could ever have. Love You
