Pollard, Elizabeth (Betty) December 12, 1922 - July 24, 2014

Elizabeth (Betty) Pollard, 91, passed away Thursday, July 24th, 2014 in Shawnee, KS where she moved in 2012 due to health reasons.

Betty was born in Kirksville, MO on December 12th, 1922, the oldest daughter of Ruth and Clarence Sunderwirth. At the age of five, she moved with her parents to El Dorado Springs. Betty attended grade and high school in El Dorado Springs, and Park College in Parkville, MO. She worked at North American Aviation in Kansas City, KS for three years and at Letourneau, Inc. in Peoria, IL.

In 1946 she married Lloyd (Pat) Belcher. They were the parents of three children, David, Brad and Beth Ann. Betty and Pat owned and operated Belcher’s Package Store for twenty-five years until his death in 1973. She continued to operate the store for another three years.

In 1976 she was married to David B. Pollard. They were happily married for thirty-two years and traveled extensively during that time.

She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in El Dorado Springs, where she taught in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School while her children were young. She had been a fifty year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and was also a member of GFWC Progress Club. She was a cancer survivor and worked with the Reach for Recovery Unit of the American Cancer Society. She was active in High Hopes, a support group for cancer patients. She also was a volunteer for the Preserve Our Past Museum.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Pat, her sister, Ruby Ruth, husband, Dave, and step-son Larry Pollard.

Survivors include her three children, six grandchildren, step-grandson and step-daughter-in-law. David Belcher and wife Donna, Missoula, MT., Brad Belcher and wife Chesley, Kansas City, MO, Beth Brown, Shawnee, KS, Eric Pollard and wife Patty, children Aiden and Lily, Cranford, NJ, and Bejay Pollard, Woodbridge, NJ. Grandchildren: Monica, Cassie, Cara, and Carissa Belcher, Eric and Karly Brown. The family also wishes to thank Aidan Mullarney for his love and support. Saturday, August 9, an opportunity to a book and offer condolences for Dr. Bill will be at the memorial for his sister Betty Pollard at Sheldon Funeral Home, 2111 Hwy 32, El Dorado Springs. Visitation at noon, service at 1 PM.
