Hazel May Thompson Reaves passed into the Lord’s hands on April 1, 2022 at North Kansas City
Hospital, North Kansas City, Mo after bravely battling a heart condition for a few months.

Hazel was born June 13, 1935 to Harold Thompson and Esta Plumb Thompson in Kansas City, Mo. Hazel
was 4th child of a large family of thirteen children.

Hazel and her family lived in Kansas City, Mo. for her first sixteen years and later the family moved to
Nevada, MO. and then to Eldorado Springs, Mo. where her dad managed the local swimming pool and
roller rink. One warm summer day while helping out at the pool, Hazel met a big fellow who delivered
Pepsi to the local businesses. He purposely bumped into Hazel and said to her “are you in my way”.
There he was John C. Reaves. Their attraction for each other was instant, but Hazel loved to flirt
and certainly made John woo her, which he did almost every single day. John had decided that
she would be his wife and proposed marriage to her every day for two weeks. After two weeks she
finally agreed to his proposal and they were married July 19th, 1953. Hazel and John set up
housekeeping in a small apartment in El Dorado Springs. John was offered a job as a Police
Officer for the city of El Dorado Springs. The next year, John and Hazel welcomed their first-born,
John Henry Reaves on July 6th, 1954. The young family moved to the Kansas City area for more
work opportunities. In 1959, Hazel was so excited to tell her family that she and John had
purchased a brand-new home in Gladstone, MO. On September 18th, 1964 Kevin Clark Reaves
their 2 nd son was born. They raised their sons and lived the rest of their lives in their forever home.

Hazel was always full of fun and active in many things. In 1959 she decided to get her beautician
license. Of course, going to beauty school and raising a family was not an easy task but Hazel
made it through. She had her shop in her home for several years and then later worked as a
traveling hair dresser for Beauty on Wheels in Kansas City, Mo. until retirement.

Hazel always loved her Lord, her family and was a caretaker to all. Hazel was a great cook and
loved to have friends and family around her table. Her specialty was Apple Pie. Hazel was a pilar
in her family when she was young and took on responsibilities beyond her age. She was a rock to
them all as they grew older. She made so many friends along the way of life and her circle
increased in size often because she loved people and having others around and under foot.

Those left to mourn her passing are her sons, Kevin Clark Reaves and wife Blythe of Ft Worth, Tx.,
John Henry Reaves of Gladstone, MO. Grandchildren, Christopher Reaves (Kristen), Cheyenne
Reaves Borton (Alex), Brittany Sams (Justin) and Kathryn Reaves. Great grandchildren, Olive and
Lilly Ann Reaves, Serenity, Mark and Paisley Borton, Emery and Eden Sams, Aleyah, Amelia and
Aurora Reaves. Seven siblings are as follows: John Paul Thompson of Jacksonville, Fl., Steven
Thompson (Rhonda)Kansas City, KS., Doris Melendez (Mario) Madeira, CA., Waneta Sitz
(Ed)Liberty, MO., Jenny Murray (Jim)Laughlin, NV., Charlotte Buerge (Scott)Nevada, MO. and
youngest sister Phyllis Blowers (Jim) Stover, MO. Many nieces and nephews plus family and
friends of the heart.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Reaves April 11, 2019 and 2 brothers, James
Rabon and Charles Thompson. Three sisters, Helen Tobin, Barbara Thomas and Evlyn Thompson.
