Harry J. Roeder was born February 2, 1918 near Collins, MO to Lewis A. and Ivy Irene (Holcomb) Roeder. Harry worked for various farmers around the Roscoe area, worked in Iowa harvesting corn, worked in Washington harvesting apples and he also worked for William Jewel College among other employers. Harry had a lifelong love of horses and participated in many trail rides through the years. He was a charter member of the St. Clair County Saddle Club. He helped organize the very first Labor Day Rodeo in Osceola, MO and could be seen at the Rodeo all three nights every year. He didn’t miss a single night in the rodeo’s first 49 years. His love of horses continued to the end and in the last month of his life he built three new bridles by hand for one of his nephews. Harry enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews and kept up with them and their families. He could always be counted on for a good card game with family and friends. Harry was a member of the Roscoe Christian Church and attended faithfully. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ivy Roeder and his siblings, Florence, Arthur, Mary, Fred, Charley, Walter and Mildred. He is survived by his sister Ruth, nieces, nephews and many friends.
