Smith, Jack D. January 10, 1929 - January 8, 2013

Jack D. Smith was born January 10, 1929 to JW “Bill” Smith and Lela Coleman Smith in Oyer, Missouri. He passed away on January 8, 2013 in Springfield, Missouri. He graduated Osceola High School in 1947 and was later married to Carol Kiefer on May 26, 1949. They were married for 57 years. Jack was inducted into the United States Marine Corp in 1952 where he served as a mortar gunner in A company 1st Battalion. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Jack and Jo Carol moved to Wymore, Nebraska where they raised their family. Jack worked many years as an auto mechanic and service manager for the Ford garage. After retiring and moving back to Osceola, Jack got serious about his second profession—fishing. He was preceded in death by both parents, his beloved wife, Jo Carol and an infant son, Joe Jonathan. Jack is survived by his children, Carol Smith, Springfield, MO, Kevin Smith, Osceola, MO., grandsons Josh Smith, Lincoln, NE, Derek Smith, Hinton, IA, Jamie Smith, Hinton, IA; great grandchildren, Tyler, Rilee, Abigail and Eliza Smith, other relatives and many friends. Jack served on the board of the Osceola Community Church and was the song leader for many years. He was an avid bird hunter and fisherman. Jack will be missed by his family and friends.
