Macie Helen Stark, daughter of Newton Bertie Stark and Laura Bell Stephens Stark, was born August 11, 1931 in Las Animas, Colorado. She passed away at her home in Lowry City on July 28, 2017 at the age of 85 years and 11 months.
She grew up in St. Clair County, Missouri and attended one room schools at Shady Nook, Long Ridge, Vista and Brush Creek, and in Bates County at Mulberry School and Amoret High School where she graduated in 1949.
Macie was employed for over 15 years by Sears Roebuck in Kansas City while also attending college classes at night. She earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Central Missouri State University, and taught elementary grades for 3 years in Warsaw and 19 years in Appleton City Schools, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the St. Clair County Historical Society and Goshen Primitive Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until she became an invalid due to rheumatic arthritis and Parkinson’s Disease. She had many interests and hobbies including reading, crocheting, quilting and gardening.
Macie was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
She is survived by her sister, Ethelene Stark of the home, her brother Jimmie Lee Stark of Colorado Springs, Colorado, 3 nieces, Kathy Ann Akers of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sandra Lee Stark of Union City, California and Dawn Marie Moore of Pueblo, Colorado, their families, cousins and many friends.
