Paul Michael Stomp, born in Kansas City, MO, May 12, 1937; died Nov 20, 2024 in Springfield, MO at the age of 87 with family at his side.

 

Mike grew up in Hickman Mills and went to school in Kansas City at Rockhurst High School and graduated in 1954. He attended Kansas City Junior College where he met the love of his life, Nancy Anne Oliver and married on July 9, 1955. He then started working for his father-in-law, Kenneth Oliver thereafter. In March of 1956 he joined the US Navy and as a Sea Bee, was promoted to the rank of Builder, Petty Officer 3. He was sent to Guam and was primarily tasked with building Quonset huts and pouring concrete to a glass shine in the South Pacific. He received his honorable discharge in Aug 1962.

 

Mike and Nancy had 9 children: Michelle White (Jim), Tracy Haack (Kurt), Lisa Stomp, Angela Anthony (Ed), Paul Stomp II (Marci), Samantha Lippert (Barth), Alicia Park, Bernadette Sterling (Bruce), John Stomp (Ronda).

 

In 1969 he moved his family to Osceola, MO where he was able to purchase an 85 acre farm running cattle and also continue his construction business, Stomp Construction/Stomp and Son Construction, as well as being a full time bee keeper (Bee Bucket Honey). He was Scout Master for Troop 350 for many years. He enjoyed mentoring young men and he reached the rank of Keeper of the Wampum in the tribe of Mic-O-Say at H. Roe Bartle. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, spending time with his children and grandchildren, reloading his own ammo, and being active in the community. He was involved in the Optimist Club, Booster Club and served on the hospital board at Sac Osage Hospital.  He was a cradle catholic and received the sacraments of baptism (St Joseph’s Hospital), confirmation and later marriage at St Augustine Parish in Kansas City, MO. He dedicated himself to St Catherine’s church in every way except for the position of priest and organist.

 

Mike was preceded in death by: his parents John Milton Stomp Sr, Maude Belle (Frandle); Siblings: John Milton Jr, Lenore Margaret (Golding).

 

Mike/Pops is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nancy Anne Stomp, their 9 children, 34 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters; Ann Ruebelmann (Lou), Margot Stomp both living in Leesburg, VA; sister-in-law Carol Stomp living in Albuquerque, NM; numerous Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and friends.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to St Catherine’s Catholic Church, Osceola, MO.

    I usually seen Mike up at the station north of town and I would ask him how everyone was doing. And one time just a few years ago he said you all had a family reunion and Angela said that was the last time they wanted to do that, there were so many there. I know that would have been a lot of cooking. Chris Woods

        Nancy, I remember your dad being at Bartle Scout Reservation, where I’ve served on staff for many years. I’m sorry for your loss. By the way, the Micosay record shows his tribal responsibility was Sagamore. (Brave 1953, Warrior 1954, Sachem 1978, Keeper of the Wampum 1987, Sagamore 1997)

    Nancy, I happened to be at St. Catherine’s last Saturday and Fr. Taranto announced that Mike had passed away. My sincere condolences! It was always such a pleasure to see you and Mike at mass when I was in Osceola. You both made all of us part-timers feel at home and welcome! May he rest in peace!

    We just learned Mike had passed. We had been looking very recently at his picture and thinking about him and Nancy. We were saddened to learn of his passing and hope time and wonderful memories have helped comfort Nancy and his family.
