Norma Irene Thompson, 77, Lowry City, MO passed away May 10, 2010 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, MO after a courageous battle with cancer. Norma was born July 22, 1932 in Lowry City, MO to Shandy and Hazel (Hillegas) Stewart.
At age 14, Norma was saved during a revival at the Methodist Church in Lowry City, MO. She was baptized by Rev. Harold Norfleet at Allen Street Baptist Church and was an active member at First Baptist Church, Clinton for the last 40 years.
She graduated from Lowry City High School in 1950, receiving the All School Spirit Award and attended Draughon’s Business College in Kansas City. Norma worked at First National Bank in Clinton, Clinton Police Station, William Cason Law Office and the Calhoun Bank and Gregg Smith Motors.
She was active in Lowry City Community Betterment, the Golden Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and donated her time to the American Heart Association, the Henry County Cancer Board and the United Way. She was a past member of the Clinton BPW Club.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth Stewart and Shandy Stewart, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Gregg and wife, Lisa, Clinton, MO; grandson, Preston Smith, Clinton, MO, granddaughter, Mackenzie Smith, Clinton, MO; two sisters, Imogene Thomason, Topeka, KS and Sharon Garrett, Purdy, MO, several nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
Norma never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. She had a beautiful smile, a loving heart, and was always doing things for others. Preston and Mackenzie were her pride and joy.
