March 3, 2021 at 2:12 pmI’ve been a gaming buddy of Richard’s since 2014 and while It may sound crazy to some, he became one of my closest friends. We spent countless hours giving each other grief and laughing at the other’s expense, talking about guns, our families and our futures. I had actually sent him a picture of my new rifle when he broke the news to me. I wished him well, tried to make him laugh to boosts his spirits, and hoped for a speedy recover. About a week ago, I sent him a text to check up on him. I fully expected some good news and If I was lucky, a hollow insult to reaffirm the positivity. After a day or two passed without a reply, I became worried, but remained optimistic. Receiving the news this morning hit me like a ton of bricks. It all happened so fast, too fast. Even knowing the circumstances, I never expected this. I’m going to miss Richard, more than he probably knew. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He was a great man and the world was a better place with him in it.
