Dale Wood was born on May 21, 1951, in Stover, MO to Lloyd R. Wood and Nellie V. (Stevenson) Wood. He went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2017.
Dale lived a full life of doing what he loved which included spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and watching football every Sunday.
He was raised in Stover, MO then later moved to Kansas City, MO. Dale attended high school at Truman High and graduated in 1969. He was a track star mainly in Shot Put. He also loved to play baseball and would sometimes challenge you to a race around the house. He loved the Kansas City Royals to the core.
Dale would go coon hunting with his dad and brothers and later in life with his son-in-laws and grandkids which was one of his greatest loves. He was a very active hunter in everything from squirrel, deer, and turkey which he loved to listen to and watch out his back door.
Dale met the love of his life, Norma Jean “Shook” Wood, in 1967. They would later marry in April, 1968. They would have been married fifty years this coming April. Of this marriage they had three girls, Rita, Angela, and Alicia.
Dale went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad in 1973 and attended Tool & Dye School for them. For a brief time he worked in Maryland with his brother, Floyd in Aluminum Form Business they had started. He retired from BNSF Railroad in 2005 and has been enjoying retirement with his family, watching football, hunting, fishing, watching westerns on TV, catching up with friends, and other family.
He came to know the Lord as a young man spending time as a Sunday School bus driver and playing softball on the church team. He later joined Union Hall Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nellie Wood; his daughter Angela; his three brothers Jerry, Lloyd Jr., and Floyd; one sister Jenni; one brother-in-law Dick Shook as well as other family members.
He is survived by his wife Norma Jean of the home; daughter Rita Bettis and spouse Tony and their four children of El Dorado Springs; daughter Alicia Janes and her two kids of El Dorado Springs; the children of daughter Angela, Santara and Cody Alex Best.
He had eight grandkids, Cody Bettis (Kristina), Chaz Bettis (Melissa), Chandra Clark (Joey), and Chance Bettis, Taten and Brinley Janes, Santara and Cody Alex Best; great grandkids, Sawyer, Alexis Jaden, Breanna, Christian, Haylie, Reagan, and Ryker; brother William Wood (Shelly) of Lees Summit, MO, sister Letha Burnett (Carroll) of Bates City, MO, sister Bertha Jett of Independence, MO; sister Rachel Wood of Oak Grove, MO, and sister Sandy Dorrell (Paul) of Lone Jack, MO; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
